The therapeutic relationship is at the heart Gonce’s way of working. She brings an empathic, attuned, respectful and creative approach to therapy sessions, using years of experience and knowledge to support a process of exploration, change and growth, and a reduction in distress and difficult to manage feelings and connected behaviour. Gonce integrates a range of theoretical and clinical perspectives to develop and support her, which include attachment theory, neuroscience, body oriented work, family systems theory and play therapy. Gonce also works extensively using trauma informed practices, and has recently completed her level 2 (and is in training for level 3) in EMDR therapy. Gonce is also trained to use CATT (Children’s accelerated Trauma Treatment) model for working with child developmental trauma and CPTSD. Gonce also holds a Masters degree in Anthropology, and understands therapeutic change to happen on a systemic as well as personal and individual level.
Gonce has worked with children and families for over 17 years. Since qualifying as a child and adolescent psychotherapist, she has worked in a variety of settings including statutory, voluntary and the private sector. In her private practice she works extensively with children and young people, and young adults presenting with a range of emotional and behaviour difficulties, such as personality disorders, chronic anxiety, depression, suicidality and self harm, eating disorders, gender identity issues, and challenges arising from disability and neurodiversity.
One of Gonce’s specialisms is in her work with adopted and permanently placed children and families whose lives have been affected by developmental trauma, attachment difficulties and parental mental ill health. She is currently a consultant psychotherapist for a leading regional fostering and adoption agency, and is a tutor and supervisor to therapists training in child psychotherapy.
Gonce thrives on working with people from all cultures and backgrounds. Her special interests include issues such as displacement and belonging, separation and loss, intergenerational trauma, and body based psychotherapy. She is also a mandala artist, which brings together her passion for working creatively with nature, people and the community.
