I am a fully qualified counsellor offering individuals and couples a safe and supportive environment to explore difficult feelings and issues.  My role is to provide you with a non judgemental and confidential environment where any issues you bring to our sessions are welcomed with an open mind and an ability to support you with warmth and understanding.
I decided to train and qualify as a counsellor because I have gained so much in the past from being a client myself – both as an individual and as part of a couple.   I believe this gives me deeper empathy with how difficult it is to take that first step and entrust a stranger with deeply personal material.
An initial telephone consultation helps to answer any questions you may have about counselling with me.  Evidence shows that the single most important factor in any successful outcome of therapy is the quality of the relationship offered by the counsellor.  This initial telephone call gives you an opportunity to speak to me and form an initial impression.
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) I abide by their ethical framework for good and safe practice in my work as a counsellor.
I gained extensive experience working for several years as an honorary counsellor in the voluntary sector at a counselling and social work agency in South East London.    Issues I have worked with include depression and anxiety, bereavement and loss, childhood sexual and emotional abuse, issues of identity, low self esteem and relationship difficulties.
In addition to a BACP Accredited Diploma in Integrative Counselling, I hold a Diploma in Relationship Counselling from RELATE together with a Diploma and Certificates in Counselling Skills.
I am trained in Bereavement Counselling by Bromley Counselling and BereavementService.
As a RELATE trained couples counsellor I have worked for Relate here in Bromley and in other locations.
Recently I completed an externship at The Bowlby Centre in North London in Emotionally Focussed Couple Therapywhich is a North American model of couples therapy.   EFCT is usually a short term (8-20 sessions), structured approach to couples therapy formulated in the 1980’s and has developed alongside the science on adult attachment and bonding to expand our understanding about what is happening in couple relationships.
Ongoing training and continuous professional development is essential to the way I practice – I am currently studying Systemic Practice with Families and Couples at the Institute of Family Therapy in North London.    Systemic practice is a therapeutic approach which involves working respectfully and effectively with people in ways that consider their important relationships, the effect on relationships of cross-generational family myths and patterns, the impact of the lifecycle on people as individuals and in relationships and the different systems and contexts in which they live.
I offer weekly or fortnightly 50 minute sessions @ £50 per session for individuals and £65.00 for couples.
Please contact me to discuss availability for open ended or short term counselling for individuals and couples.
