Clinical Psychologist HCPC Registered
Dr Katie Murray is an experienced Clinical Psychologist who has worked in the NHS for over 15 years, across a range of mental health and physical health settings. Her specialism is providing therapy to adults who experience psychological distress associated with having a physical health condition, such as adjusting to a new diagnosis, coping with functional limitations brought about by a health condition, changes to self-identity and life roles or relationships, and worries about prognosis and the future. Katie also has extensive experience of providing evidence-based therapy to individuals experiencing difficulties such as anxiety (e.g. panic attacks, frequent worry, phobias), stress, depression, low self-esteem, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anger problems, disordered eating and sleep disturbance.
A person-centered approach is used to tailor therapy according to the individual’s circumstances, drawing on a range of approaches including, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). Therapy is a collaborative process; Whilst Katie brings her therapeutic knowledge and skills to the conversation, the individual is always the ‘expert’ about their life experiences and difficulties. This collaborative approach often involves setting goals to complete and practising strategies in between therapy sessions.
Katie is registered as a practitioner with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and has full disclosure and barring service checks completed (DBS). Katie receives regular clinical supervision in relation to the assessment and therapy she provides, in line with the BPS code of conduct. If you have any questions or are considering therapy, please do not hesitate to contact Katie by text, email or phone. She is happy to offer an initial phone chat free of charge to discuss whether she is able to provide the sort of support that best meets your needs. Please get in touch either by email or text or phone.
